Main Italian towns (all worth your visit)
In Italy there are quite a lot of towns, most of which of very ancient origin.
There are however only two cities, Rome and Milan, exceeding the figure of 1 million inhabitants.
In particular, Rome, located in the region named Lazio, has a population of 2,761,477, as of 31 December 2010 (data source: ISTAT), while the population of Milan, situated in Lombardy, is 1,324,110.
Very close to the 1 million figure are Naples (963,357) in Campania and Turin (907,563) in Piedmont.
Palermo, in Sicily, holds 655,875 resident people, Genoa (Liguria) 607,906, Bologna (Emilia-Romagna) 380,181, Florence (Tuscany) 371,282, Bari (Apulia) 320,475 and Catania (Sicily) 293,458.
The above mentioned cities are the 10 largest ones in Italy. All of them are also rich in art and history, so a visit to them is mandatory.
But what about the size of other internationally very renowned Italian towns like for instance Venice and Verona? Well, Venice comes 11th, with a population of 270,884 and Verona is 12th with 263,964.
