Whenever I create a new WordPress blog I immediately install into it, from the wordpress.org site, some free plugins I find essential and very useful.
They are:
- Google XML Sitemaps, by Arne Brachhold – It automatically rebuilds your blog sitemap any time you insert new posts and it notifies search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask.com about the changes
- StatPress Reloaded, by Manuel Grabowsky – It supplies you with automatic statistics about the visits your blog receives
- TinyMCE Advanced, by Andrew Ozz – It makes post editing much more comfortable, acting as a visual editor
- WordPress Database Backup, by Austin Matzko – It allows you to schedule and carry out automatic backups of your blog data
Now, the number and features of WordPress compatible plugins vary every day, seeing that a lot of people are working on them all over the world.
So, there might be around even better plugins, that I am not aware of, than the ones I mentioned above.
Anyway, the ones I have listed seem to work fine to me and I am satisfied with their service.
These plugins cover, I think, the basic needs for productive blogging.
Other plugins could be necessary to further expand blog capabilities, according to specific requirements.
