System crashes and database failures do occur, so it is advisable, not to say vital, to carry out backups of our data as soon and as often as possible.
This applies to WordPress blogs as well.
Luckily, there are several free plugins doing that job for us.
One of them is the ‘WordPress Database Backup‘ plugin by Austin Matzko.
It can be installed automatically from the ‘Plugins/Add New’ entry in the admin area of a WordPress blog.
Just type’ WordPress Database Backup’ in the Search Plugins box and then click on the WordPress Database Backup plugin.
Once you have installed and activated it, you can control the behaviour ot this plugin through the Backup entry which gets automatically added into the Tools menu.
You can then perform backups of your blog manually ‘on the fly’, by saving it on your website server, by downloading it onto your personal computer or by having it emailed to the email address you specify.
Alternatively, which is most useful, you can schedule your WordPress blog automatic backups to be executed and emailed to your email address once per hour, twice daily, once daily or once weekly.
This way, you greatly reduce the risk of losing your blog data (posts, etc.) for good.
