WordPress – Reading Settings

By max on November 20, 2009

The WordPress Reading Settings page contains the following entries:

  • Blog pages show at most - Here you can specify the maximum number of posts you want to be displayed on a single page of your blog. You must think carefully about this parameter. Too many the posts that are displayed on a single page, the greater the risk that the blog visitor does not read them all, just stopping at the page top. Besides, having you for instance placed Google Adsense ads at the top of the page, if the visitor scrolls quickly down to review the other posts he/she will more likely neglect the Google (or others’) ads.You could also place further ads all along the whole page, but you should consider the fact that there is a limit in the number of Google ads you can show on a single page. Therefore, you must ponder attentively as to what the most productive number of posts for your blog page can be. Usually, I set this parameter to a value between 1 and 3.
  • Syndication feeds show the most recent - In this field you can establish the maximum number of posts by other blogs that you want automatically inserted into your page via syndication. More on this topic in future posts.
  • For each article in a feed show – Here you can decide if you want syndicated posts to be displayed in your blog pages in their Full Text or as a Summary. Personally, I usually set the latter option.
  • Encoding for pages and feeds - Most likely, you will not need to change the deault UTF-8 value of this parameter, which holds universally valid design and compliance.
