The Export function in the WordPress Tools menu allows you to export your blog so that you can:
- save a copy of your blog onto your local PC (performing regular copies of a blog is highly recommended in order to be able to restore it in case of problems)
- import it later, if you wish or need to, into another WordPress blog.
In particular, the Export facility will create from your blog an XML file for you to save to your computer.
This XML File, whose format is called WordPress eXtended RSS or WXR, will contain your posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags.
Once you’ve saved the download file, you can use the Import function on another WordPress blog to import the blog that you have saved.
Exporting can be restricted to just the data relating to a specific post author.
